About Bitcoin Perp

What is a Bitcoin Perpetual?

A perpetual is a futures contract with no expiry date. You go long or short on the price of Bitcoin in USD, with leverage, and keep the position open for as long as your margin allows. Instead of settling on a fixed date, a funding payment exchanged between longs and shorts every 8 hours keeps the contract price anchored to the spot index.

How Bitcoin Perp works on LN Markets

Bitcoin Perp is an inverse perpetual: it is quoted in USD, but margin, profit and loss are all denominated in sats. Deposit bitcoin over Lightning or on-chain, pick a side, a margin amount and a leverage up to 100x, and your position is live. Profits settle to your balance in sats the moment you close.

What is the funding rate?

Every 8 hours a small payment is exchanged between long and short positions. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs. The current rate is displayed in the app before you open a position, so there are no surprises.

How much leverage can I use on Bitcoin Perp?

Up to 100x, in isolated or cross margin. In isolated margin each position has its own margin and its own liquidation; in cross margin your positions share one margin pool.

What is the funding rate and who pays it?

Every 8 hours, at 00:00, 08:00, and 16:00 UTC, a payment is exchanged between longs and shorts to keep the contract anchored to the spot price. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs. The rate is aggregated from Binance, Bybit and OKX and passed through 1:1.

How is my profit and loss calculated?

For a long, P/L (sats) = quantity × (1 / entry price − 1 / exit price) × 100,000,000, and the opposite for a short. The quantity is in USD, so your sats grow as the price of bitcoin moves your way.

What happens if my position gets liquidated?

When your margin can no longer cover the loss, the position is closed and its margin is lost. In isolated margin only that position is affected; in cross margin one liquidation price covers your whole cross position. A stop loss closes the position before it gets there.

How do I deposit and withdraw?

Deposit over Lightning and the sats land in seconds, or on-chain after 2 confirmations. You can also deposit L-USDT on Liquid. Withdrawals go out over Lightning or on-chain.

Is there a minimum deposit?

1,000 sats over Lightning. On-chain and Liquid deposits have no minimum, and LN Markets charges no deposit fee.

Do I need to verify my identity?

Yes, and it is quick: an ID card and a live selfie are enough to get started.

What are the trading fees?

One trading fee on open and close, 0.10% of notional by default, falling to 0.08%, 0.07% and 0.06% as your 30-day volume grows. Funding is passed through from the reference markets with no spread added.

Can I set a stop loss and a take profit?

Yes, along with a trailing stop loss that follows the price in your favor. They trigger against the order book, like every execution on LN Markets.

Can I trade from my phone?

Yes. LN Markets runs in your phone’s browser, with the same features as on desktop.

Is there an API?

Yes. A REST API and a websocket stream for prices, positions and orders, with scoped API keys. You can test everything on Signet.
